This session is a special one for me. My childhood best friend Gretchen is a new mama and I was lucky enough to get to photograph her growing little family. I’ve photographed Gretchen’s engagement, wedding, maternity, and now newborn session. Being with her on this journey has been amazing.. not only can I see where her life has gone, but I also get to see where my work has grown.
I originally went over to Gretchen + Ryan’s apartment to snag a few shots of Wyatt, but then quickly realized that they were moving in to their first home within a matter of weeks. It didn’t seem right to capture their new family at this apartment when they’d be moving in to their home so soon. So we delayed the session and I’m so glad that we did. There is nothing like your new family in your new home.
Gretchen + Ryan’s first baby, Rocco. Not to be outdone by baby Wyatt, Rocco made his presence known during our photoshoot.
The crying shots always get me. It is so much what being a new parent is about.
That father-son love.
Are they not seriously the cutest? Like ever?
Gretchen was made for motherhood. She was always the motherly friend when we were growing up, taking care of everyone, comforting them, etc. Plus, she’s always LOVED babies. When she comes over to visit with Frances it’s only a matter of minutes before she’s sitting on the floor playing whatever game interests Frances at the time.
It didn’t take Wyatt long to realize that his mama is the funniest lady around. Smart boy.
And now a few film frames! I brought along my 35 mm and took a few shots of them on the front steps. I really love incorporating a bit of film in to my sessions.
Gretchen, Ryan, Rocco + Wyatt – congrats on this next step in your lives. Much love. xo, Lauren
