Addison made her way in to this world on an October day, a little earlier than expected. One minute Aimee was at a doctors appointment, the next she was being sent to the hospital for a c-section. Hours later, Addie was born – a healthy, beautiful, perfect little lady.
I’ve known Aimee for over ten years – she the sister of Heather, and also the sister of Christie (one of my best friends from college). Living in New York during college, away from my family and friends in New Jersey, I grew very close to my friends and equally as close to their families. When Aimee would come to school to visit Christie or take her out to dinner, most times I’d tag a long. Aimee was twelve years old when Christie was born, so in addition to being her sister she was also her mini-momma – feeding, changing diapers, and looking after Christie. Playing dolls the way that any twelve year old would, but with an actual baby! That caring, motherly warmth was carried out through Christie’s later years, and then in college it was extended to me as well. Aimee was always concerned with our well beings – our grades, our health, if we were happy. At the same time, because she wasn’t our mother we could talk to her the way that we would a friend.
As long as I’ve known Aimee, she has always wanted to be a mother. And after years of feeling like I was nurtured under her wing, I was so happy when I found out that she was pregnant with her own daughter. I couldn’t help thinking what a lucky little girl to have a momma like that.
I then got the pleasure to document this family’s love on a Saturday morning in November.
