Ava & Jimmy – South Jersey Children’s Photographer

I got the chance to photograph Ava and Jimmy in early September 2012 and I had an absolute blast doing it! These are two of the absolute sweetest and hilarious kids I’ve had the pleasure to be around. There was no warming up with these two, they both started interacting with me like they had met me a hundred times. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be able to connect with your subjects right from the start! Usually kids taking some time to feel comfortable and many need to be broken out of their shells a bit, but right away these two started telling me about football and soccer and their new teachers. All the while their parents were trailing us, trying to keep up with our budding new friendship!

One thing I can tell you though, is that Ava and Jimmy are like night and day. Jimmy is a fast talker, eager to get everything in and eager to tell you about anything that he thinks is interesting. And that smile, this kid knows how to pose for that camera! He’d be in the middle of telling me a story and the second he saw my finger going for the shutter button, he’d pause and smile. Totally engaged with every part of being photographed. Catching him off guard was the hardest part!

Ava on the other hand is quiet, soft-spoken and gentle. She is thoughtful, an observer. She walked casually from place to place, taking in everything that was around her. She was in no rush to get to the next place. She offered answers to my questions – clear and concise. And then, if I allowed a certain pause between questions, she’d offer me just a little bit more – a smile, a look, a glimmer in her eye.

And then there was the time that they spent together. Such sweet interactions. They hugged and laughed easily and genuinely. My only regret is not having mom & dad jump into the shots, but hopefully they’ll join us next time!
